You'll cross dreamy villages, conserved in their original state for centuries, alongside romantic gothic churches, working windmills, you'll visit cultural jewels, and cycle along channels, dams and bridges. Like a huge artery, the rivers and channels fill the wide countryside.
North Sea, Dollart and the Jade bay, the Zwischenahner Sea and a number of natural and man-made seas determine the life in this region. Fishing once belonged to the main income sources of the population. Even today, the colourful fishing vessels present themselves as a part of the villages. As a result, a wide array of fish menus can be found in the gastronomy.
